Becoming a Powerhouse Woman with Lindsey Schwartz

How’s it going, love? I am so grateful you’re taking the time to read this post today. Welcome back to the Boldly Courageous podcast! This post is all about reimagining what’s possible. It’s about breaking out of the box of our typical patterns of thinking and courageously shaking up the way we do things and engage in community so we can live more fulfilled and abundant lives!

My guest today is the perfect person to help us with this conversation. Lindsey Schwartz is one of the most beautiful and inspiring women I’ve met in the last year. She’s funny, bright, and real. I know you’re going to love this conversation, babe.

Besides being an all-around beautiful human, Lindsey has a very special talent for creating community. She has an annual event called Powerhouse Women, which is this awesome gathering of women from all over the country and even around the world. Powerhouse Women is all about women coming together to support, encourage, inspire, and experience real community with each other. It’s truly extraordinary!

But like so many of us this year, COVID has thrown Lindsey and Powerhouse Women for a loop. When it became clear that an in-person event wasn’t going to be possible this year, Lindsey had to start thinking creatively. She reimagined her event and created a whole new experience.

“It was real cute, how I thought I was in control and had this whole plan. And then, you know, ‘Just kidding!’ We really aren’t in control of much other than … the perception we have. And I’ll be honest; I had to mourn my former plans, my expectations for what I thought this year was going to look like. … [But] I knew we still needed this. … So I sat back, and I remember going through this process where I just said, ‘Well, what if?’ And a lot of reimagining is … letting go of the control, letting go of expectations…”

Has 2020 thrown you out of your comfort zone? Have you had to throw out your planner and start from scratch? That’s okay — I have too. The good news is that Lindsey is here with me today to show you how to reimagine what’s possible, keep building community with like-minded women, and ultimately succeed even when life hits you with something as crazy as this pandemic!

And by the way, if the Powerhouse Women event sounds like something you want to participate in, you’re going to want to listen all the way to the end! Lindsey is offering a very special discount just for Boldly Courageous listeners, and I know you’re going to want to take advantage of it.

Who Is Lindsey Schwartz?

Lindsey Schwartz is a wellness entrepreneur, top podcast host, and best-selling author. As a sought-after speaker, Lindsey travels around the world inspiring women to get out of their own way and into action around their big ideas, and she helps women create the careers they’ve always dreamed of.

After seeing numerous women in her life stop short of pursuing their own entrepreneurial dreams because of fear and self-doubt, she saw the need for more honest conversations about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship in order to show women that they don’t have to have it all together to get started. From there, the Powerhouse Women community, annual event, and podcast were born, with the motto that we’re not meant to do business (or life) alone!

Lindsey’s podcast, also called Powerhouse Women, is FULL of inspiration! Each episode, Lindsey brings her listeners valuable advice they can take into their businesses and their lives. Lindsey is a passionate, wise, and enthusiastic boss babe, and her charisma and brilliance really shine through on the show. I really want to encourage you all to check it out — you’ll definitely learn something new!

And Lindsey’s book, Powerhouse Woman, is definitely worth your time too! In it, Lindsey shares some secrets and practical advice to help you discover your purpose, access your confidence, and create the results you want in every area of your life. I know you’re going to want to read it after this episode.

Lindsey is truly something special, and I’m honored to call her my friend. This episode will absolutely inspire you, so let’s get started!

Get Out Of Your Own Way

We’ve talked a lot about how 2020 has thrown us some curveballs, particularly when it comes to the pandemic. Entrepreneurs all over the world just like you and me have had to step back, reevaluate, and alter their whole business plan.

And here’s the thing: that takes courage! It’s not easy to throw out your beautifully crafted plans and start from scratch, even when some external factor forces you to do that. And that’s especially true for boss babes like us. We like control, right? We want to feel empowered, and like we have everything handled all the time. So when life gives us something unexpected — like a global pandemic — we’re forced to show up in different ways and find new strategies for success, but that can be genuinely scary.

“I really do love control. I am as Type A as they come, and I’ve had to really welcome in this opportunity to reimagine what I had planned for this year. And so when I hit those moments … [I remember] that I always have a chance to choose. It’s always my choice how I want to go into a season…”

Lindsey Schwartz

Lindsey’s words are so wise. 2020 is just a season in our lives. So even if you’ve been feeling out of control, you have the opportunity to shift your perspective, get out of your own way, and choose not to let doubt and insecurity make you feel like you can’t succeed in these new circumstances.

What have you been struggling with this year? Have you, like Lindsey, had to reimagine how you’re going to hold an event? Have you had to alter your product or business plan? Are those changes triggering feelings of doubt or insecurity? I want to encourage you today to realize that this is just an opportunity for you to grow.

“… If you commit to the journey and you realize all of this is growing you into the person that you’re meant to be, it becomes a lot easier even to sit in the times that just suck. And none of us like to feel like a total loser or imposter or whatever your little voice says to you, but you know that … ‘Okay, cool, I must be triggering some kind of growth because right now I feel super freaking uncomfortable.’”

Lindsey Schwartz

Have you fully committed to this journey? If not, I want to encourage you to commit right now. Commit to experiencing this opportunity for growth and let it shape you into the awesome boss babe you were meant to be! Don’t be afraid of being out of control and shifting your plans — that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you need to rise to a new occasion. You can get out of your own way and rise to it if you choose to!

Unicorn Brainstorming

Once you’ve chosen to get out of your own way and not let insecurity and doubt stop you from becoming a boss babe, it’s time to get back to work! If you need to reimagine a new business strategy and figure out new ways to get your products or message out into the world, you need to participate in Lindsey’s favorite exercise: unicorn brainstorming.

“… My favorite exercise, unicorn brainstorming, [is asking], ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if…’”

Lindsey Schwartz

It’s that simple. Wouldn’t it be cool if… you launched a virtual coaching program? Wouldn’t it be cool if… you made $10,000 this month? Wouldn’t it be cool if… you fill in the blank! Take a few minutes just to brainstorm — and don’t be afraid to get crazy with it! Write down your biggest, wildest dreams. What’s the coolest thing you can think of for your business? Write that down!

“I want you to map this onto your own situation. Like, what’s possible for your previous plans? … The cool thing about a question like, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if… ?’ [is] it totally gets us out of what our mind can even fathom as possible because we’re not saying, ‘Oh, well what’s practical or realistic?’ We’re saying, ‘I don’t know.’ … It gets you into the actual state of being creative because you’re considering things that you couldn’t see before and that you still maybe can’t see.”

Lindsey Schwartz

Babe, questions are powerful. Questions give you the opportunity to think outside the box. They allow you to break out of your old patterns and limiting beliefs and find new ways of doing things that work in new circumstances.

So start asking yourself questions. How has the pandemic forced you to change your plans? Okay, now what can you do about that? How can you do things differently to keep growing and succeeding in a new environment with new circumstances?

Again, this is all about being creative. Remember what Lindsey said earlier? The only thing you really have control over is your perception. Choose to experience this season of uncertainty with an attitude of questioning and the understanding that this is an opportunity for massive growth. You’ll eventually get the results you desire!

Be Boldly Courageous with Lindsey Schwartz

Babe, if this episode inspired you at all, I want you to check out the Powerhouse Women event. That’s right — it’s still happening! It’s just going to be a totally virtual event this year. And even though it won’t be an in-person experience, Powerhouse Women 2020 is still going to be a massively impactful event. It will still be a magical moment of community-building for the women who attend.

“If you’re looking to connect with like-minded women, they’re not going to come and knock on your door. They don’t know that you’re looking to connect and feel supported. So you’re going to have to put yourself out there a little bit.”

Lindsey Schwartz
